Autumn officially begins on September 22. The days grow shorter, the leaves turn beautiful shades of red, orange and yellow, and nature prepares itself for a new season. It is also the season of rainy days, crisp mornings and less sunlight.
Especially during this time of year, it is important to pay extra attention to your diet. Regular exercise, a good night's sleep, relaxation and a healthy, varied diet all help you take good care of yourself. And what could be better than doing so with delicious, organic dried ingredients?
Small ingredients, that little extra
Autumn officially begins on September 22. The sun is lower in the sky, and the days become increasingly shorter and colder. This makes autumn a good time to pause and think about what your body needs.
Vitamins and minerals play an important role in helping our bodies function properly, including supporting the normal function of the immune system. These include vitamin D, vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, selenium and folate. Omega-3 fatty acids are also valuable nutrients as part of a varied diet.
Our organic dried products are ideal for adding to your daily meals during autumn. They are easy to store, simple to use and give your dishes that little extra.
For example:
Nutsandseeds – delicious in porridge, yoghurt or salads. Nuts and seeds contain important vitamins such as vitamin E, B1, B6 and folate, as well as minerals including magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, zinc and selenium. Pumpkin seeds, for example, are a great source of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Dried fruit – a delicious way to add fruit to your breakfast, lunch or snack. Dried fruit contains various B vitamins, such as B1, B6 and folate, as well as minerals including potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium. Dried fruit is also incredibly versatile: you can use it in baked goods and desserts too. For example, dates can be used as a natural sweetener, allowing you to replace some of the added sugar.
Tea – perfect for a quiet moment on the sofa, while working, or simply enjoying a cosy moment with family and friends. Outside, nature slowly transforms into a beautiful palette of autumn colours. As the temperatures drop, nothing suits a cosy autumn day better than a delicious warm cup of tea. Discover more about our tea in this blog → Tea? You’ll find that in our range too!
Chocolate – the perfect way to treat yourself on cold and rainy days. Delicious alongside a warm cup of coffee or tea. We offer a wide range of chocolate products, from creamy chocolate with crunchy nuts to delicious chocolate-covered dried fruit.
Good to know
Vitamin C in dried fruit
Almost everyone knows that vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system. Fresh fruit is generally considered an important source of vitamin C. But what about vitamin C in dried fruit, nuts and seeds?
Although the drying process destroys much of the vitamin C, some fruit varieties still contain a small amount because they start with a particularly high vitamin C content:
Goji berries. This popular 'superfood' retains a relatively high vitamin C content, even when dried or in powder form.
Dried apricots and mango still contain a small amount of vitamin C. Apricots are also a source of vitamin A and iron.
Nuts and seeds are generally not a source of vitamin C. However, pine nuts, chia seeds and sunflower seeds do contain very small amounts.
Omega-3 in seeds and nuts
Omega-3 fatty acids are best known for being found in oily fish. But certain seeds and nuts can also contribute to your intake of omega-3 fatty acids.
Seeds richest in omega-3
Flaxseed. Ground flaxseed helps your body absorb its nutrients more easily.
Chia seeds. Also rich in fibre and plant-based fats.
Hemp seeds. In addition to omega-3, they contain a beneficial balance of omega-6 fatty acids.
Nuts richest in omega-3
Walnuts. One of the best nuts when it comes to omega-3 content. A handful (approximately 30 grams) per day can make a valuable contribution.
Pecans also contain a small amount of omega-3.
