Harvest Pilaff is a healthy mix of brown basmati rice, red and brown lentils, wild rice, yellow and green split peas. You can simply make a delicious, nutritious meal with this healthy mix. Pilaff (pilav) comes originally from the Middle-East. We use brown basmati rice, originally from Southeast-Asia for this mix. Our rice have a long, solid grain and a full taste. The word "basmati" is originally from Hindi language and means "fragrant". Because of the rice bran, it contains lot of nutritional fibre, vitamin B1, vitamin B3 and iron. Wild rice is actually not a rice, but a grain variant with long, solid dark-brown seeds and a nutty taste. It is nutritious, rich in protein, carbohydrates, Vitamin B, minerals and fibre. Wild rice is mostly being cultivated in North-America. Lentils are pulses that are rich in protein, fibre and are also an excellent source of iron. The red variety has a relatively sweet, nutty taste and boils down to a thick, creamy red-orange mash. Brown lentils have a mild taste and retain their form. Split peas have little fat and contain lot of fibre and protein. Besides that, they are rich in vitamin B11, manganese, copper and iron. Green split peas boil down to a solid, creamy mash and have a somewhat earthy taste. The yellow split pea is a little sweeter in taste than the green variety.
